Insulin is the counter hormone to IGF so if your IGF is low or not working properly your insulin levels will tend to be higher because now your pancreas must work harder to release sugar and fuel.

Cortisol is another important fat-storing hormone that we must pay attention to.

 

It is produced by your adrenal glands and is triggered by stress and inflammation. Cortisol plays a dual role in fat storing and fat burning.

 

When cortisol levels are high due to stress it’s going to release sugars from the liver to provide instant energy. The flip side to that though is it will tend to release too much sugar for that event and now your Insulin must do something with the excess sugar.

 

Generally, it is going to get stored as fat and not put back into your liver.

 

We want to control our Cortisol levels so that we are not triggering Insulin spikes and promoting fat storage. We reset it by lowering chronic inflammation levels.

 

3.  Growth Hormone

 

Your growth hormone is made in your brain by your pituitary gland and it works through your liver.

 

It helps to burn fat and build new lean muscle. It is also an anti-aging hormone and why you hear about these anti-aging clinics prescribing growth hormone to their patients.

 

It helps to regulate your fuel requirements between meals and if you have poor liver function (chronic inflammation) your growth hormone function in relation to fat burning and muscle building is affected.

Insulin is responsible for regulating your blood sugars and either sending it to be burned off for energy or stored as fat to be used later. 

 

When you become overweight you end up with what is called insulin resistance and your fat cells become sick.

 

One of the struggles many people encounter is that they have tried diet after diet or they restrict their calories and can’t budge a pound from the scale. This is because their fat cells have become sick (inflamed) and unhealthy.

 

This ruins any chance of burning off that stored fat and losing weight.

 

Let me explain to you what is happening with your fat cells at that moment.

5.  Glucagon

 

Glucagon helps to control blood sugars between your meals and taps into your fat stores to do this.

 

Glucagon also counteracts Insulin. Keep your Glucagon higher and your Insulin levels are going to staylower and keep you in fat-burning mode.

 

Now if your fat cells are “sick” and “inflamed” then Glucagon has a hard time accessing these fat cells to be used for energy. 

 

The end result is too much sugar floating around in the blood which ends up getting stored as fat.

 

A domino effect with dysfunctional hormones is the creation of “sick” fat cells and chronic internal inflammation.

 

Normally your body uses free fatty acids for energy and that is a good thing.

If this concentration of free fatty acids becomes too high, your body is unable to recruit healthy fat cells.
